Can this one be all about opening a bank account in Morocco.
I've asked my agent to forward all documentation regarding same and just wondering how you all have got on - if you;ve gone done that route yet.

I will of course provide feedback from my own experiences

I have opened a "convertible" account with Banc Populaire (Star Street, Paddington) as this is the only Moroccan bank who have a branch in London. Only sterling can be paid into the account which means it is not good for large sums as you cannot use a moneybroker.

I supose it depends on the solicitor. I went with Legalex and it is included in their scope of activities.

I'm with CBA and they have charged an additional £75 to set up account for me. Got some documentation through this morning - looks like my account has been set up with branch of Banque Populaire in Saidia.

I've filled out all the forms for Societe Generale who have a branch in Nador, they also have limited internet banking which is all difficult through French but not impossible, so far has not cost me anything, just internet translation engines to ensure I filled the forms out correctly

As I am living here, I have made the effort to find out a little more about opening an account for foreigners in Morocco.

There are now 3 banks in the Medina of Med-Saidia. Societe General, Bank Populaire and Atajariwafa Bank. All offer much of a muchness, although in my experence, the Sog Gen is the most professional and helpful.

You can walk in with your passport, copy of a UK utility bill, UK bank statement and you're away. They also offer internet banking, although this can be slightly hit and miss, especially as you have to collect the log in details directly from the bank in person.

All banks can also offer mortgages to foreigners, providing you meet the required criteria. 6 months salary slips, a letter from your employer stating you work for them and a passport.
